Trend Spotting

New Delhi, March 24, 2010: The colour was a hot favourite among designers and models on Day 1 of fashion week in Delhi. Purple just might be the unofficial official colour of Wills Indian Fashion Week (WIFW) Fall Winter 2010/11. Why? Because, one after the other, fashion biggies paraded into the WIFW venue in, you guessed it, purple!

First jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali walked in in a purple, one-shoulder Nandita Mahtani dress. Later, we spotted hair stylist to the stars, Sapna Bhavnani showing off the most awesome purple hair! When asked, she refused to reveal exactly how she created the lovely colour. “All I’ll say is it’s a mixture of three colours and I call it bengan!” she said.
Then, in walked menswear designer Rohit Kamra wearing one of his own creations which was, of course, purple! And he was soon followed by model Indrani Dasgupta, also in the same colour.

Designer Gaurav Gupta, who is showing on Day 2 at WIFW, also had purple, plaid-patterned dresses on display at his stall. It looks like he’s been inspired by the avant garde designer Alexander McQueen. We wonder, is this a tribute to the British designer who recently died?

Also, some outfits displayed at Rohit Bal’s stall were in shades of, what else, purple. It’s time to update your wardrobes, people!

Jumpsuits were a hot favourite on Day 1, what with designer Masaba Gupta arriving in a cool, white one, soon to be followed by Nandita Mahtani in a cute, ash grey one!

Mumbai-based designer Nikasha Tawade chose to model her own creations. She picked an eye-wateringly bright fushia pink kaftan-type kurti and matched it with burnt orange dhoti pants. She looked fab!

Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani did something fabulous with model Sheetal Mallar’s hair. While giving her the hairstyle of the week, Bhavnani took the WIFW ‘official photographer’s’ lovely, curly long hair and PINNED it into a bob. All she used was water spray and shine. Why? “Because you can get your hair off your neck for the summer, without having to hack it off,” said Bhavnani. “Plus bobs are in right now! And you can accessorise them with feathers or funky hairbands,” she added.
Psst… we think the always trendy Bhavnani’s psychedelic clothes need a special mention. She matched her puff-sleeve black dress with neon green stockings and white loafers!

One of today's hottest and refreshingly inspirational jewelry designers, Claire Aristides, offers her expert knowledge in making fashion jewelry in this practical step-by-step guide. Packed with beautiful pieces to make and wear, Bejeweled offers a breathtaking range of classic and contemporary necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. These original, feminine jewelry creations have been selected from Claire's stunning designs---more than thirty unashamedly sexy, glamorous and totally wearable acessories for every chosen occasion. The handmade pieces featured will see you through all seasons and all occasions: from pairing a topaz pendant necklace with a fresh summer dress for a casual day out, to making a pair of sparkly chandelier earrings for a formal wedding outfit.
Claire's personal passion for handmade excellence is echoed throughout the book in the simplicity of her jewelry, her love of mixing color and textures and her ability to choose the most alluring stones and materials; satin ribbon and suede make dramatic statements when teamed with crystals and wooden beads, while a topaz pendant mixes luxuriously with decorative gold adornments.
Claire offers firsthand advice on getting started, how to approach the designs and choose from the vast array of beads and materials available. She then gives invaluable instruction on how to accomplish the basics: how to make links and fastenings, string the different components onto a chain, and secure the finished pieces.
Within the "Jewelry Collection" itself, thirty step-by-step projects demonstrate a variety of skills for all levels including technical concepts such as wiring, making components, dyeing metal and beads, and working with different materials such as semiprecious stones, shell and cord. The beginner to the advanced can progress through the collection, from making a vintage pearl bracelet with a gunmetal chain and a pair of tourmaline teardrop earrings, to a Swarovski crystal pendant or a tiger's-eye ring. These are treasures to make and wear with pridepurchased this book through a book club without being able to look at it first. I may have purchased it anyway, but there are probably some other beading books better suited to my style than this one. The main reason being that artist uses metal chain more than I do in my work. Even so, there are a few design ideas (briole earrings and a chunky charm bracelet) that I may use for inspiration in my own jewelry.

The author provides some background information at the beginning that tells about the different types of beads, charms, etc that can be used in designs. There is also information about clasps, findings, tools, chain and thread that beaders may find useful. I found tidbits of information that were new to me. There are also a few pages on techniques, but the majority of the book focuses on designs and techniques specific to those designs. At the end of the book the author includes resources for supplies in North America, Europe and Asia.

Each design project includes a material list accompanied by a photo of some of the components. There are several pictures of the project at different stages to illustrate the techniques needed as well as a photo of the final project. The text explaining the steps is brief, but tips are included as well as descriptions of possible variations to the design. All photos are full-color. Most of the designs use glass, crystal, gem stone, abalone and pearl beads as well as metal chain and accents. The final products look very professional. m a very beginner beader and when I received a copy of this book I was really pleased with many of the projects. She gives some instructions in the beginning but not enough for a beginner like me. I was able to do one of the bracelets though, through a little trial and error. It actually turned out well. Her work really inspired me. It mixes elegant with casual, and I like that effect. I am already planning on another project from the book. The Antique Pearl bracelet. It mixes gunmetal chain with onyx and gray pearls. Its beautiful. I think you'll like this book not as a how to book, but for its projects.

boy fashion

beenage boys often have a hard time when it comes to gathering clothing fashion tips. It can seem as though all the useful information out there is aimed at girls. Tips about clothing and style trends for teenage boys are few and far between. This article however, aims to give teenage boys practical, down to earth clothing tips on how dress to be hot, while appearing cool. # Teenage boys can begin by getting some basic clothing, from which to make up different outfits. Basic clothing items are: a great pair of straight cut jeans, a pair of skinny jeans in black, a dark, striped blazer, a selection of tee shirts with slogans on, a classic suit, a striped or block color shirt, a pair of chinos, a vee necked sweater, and a roll neck chunky knit sweater.

# Statement accessories can go a long way in altering the look and feel of an outfit. A teenage boy should have several different trendy skinny ties, a couple of leather belts, one in black, and another in brown, black socks, a chunky winter scarf and a waistcoat.

# Boots and shoes are very important when it comes to being fashionable for teenage boys. Cowboy boots, ankle boots, black biker boots, caterpillar boots and formal black shoes are the kinds of footwear to aim for, depending on the teen boys particular style and taste.

# Hats are very trendy for guys. Baker boy caps are fashionable, as are felt or fake fur trilbys. A hat can make or break an outfit, and personalise a look.

# Most teenage boys need to know that they can stay looking great if they take care of themselves and their clothing gear. Leather fashion accessories look brilliant when polished regularly, but sad when left to become dull and dirty. Jeans can still be fashionable when a little worn, and even when ripped slightly. However, those which drag along in the mud, or which hang too low around the bottom cleavage area aren't so hot.

Boys can keep jackets, suits and pants looking smart by making sure they are ironed, placed on a hanger, and put in a wardrobe. The same goes for shirts. Tee shirts look dreadful if simply squashed in to a draw, or when screwed up. They look great however, when they are folded and put away carefully before use.

# Many teenage boys grow up in to men who have no idea about fashion blunders. Therefore, boys can benefit by learning early on, that white socks look bad with dark pants and jeans. Socks shouldn't be worn with sandals. Shirts with wide lapels, and wide ties, look great only when worn to parties with a seventies theme, and too much bling makes a guy look like a pimp, rather than cool.

# Teenage boys should also know that style and fashion is all about how you put an outfit together. Certain clothing garments will look fabulous with certain other ones, or pretty bad. The trick is to experiemnt when alone, and to practice mixing and matching until a personal style is found.

The Bon Jovi guitarist and designer Nikki Lund have teamed up to launch fashion line White Trash Beautiful. Here they discuss the clothing line and its launch.

Not content with playing in a world tour alongside his Bon Jovi band-mates, guitarist Richie Sambora has teamed up with musician and designer Nikki Lund to launch a new fashion range White Trash Beautiful.

Since it launched in March 2010 at Los Angeles Fashion Week in March 2010. White Trash Beautiful has taken America by storm and can include the likes of Carrie Underwood and Miley Cyrus among its celebrity fans.

The British launch of new fashion label White Trash Beautiful and its Autumn/ Winter 2010 collection at London's Indig02 turned out to be a family affair as the whole of Bon Jovi and their clans offered their support.

On this occasion Jon Bon Jovi was pleased not to be centre stage as his daughter Stephanie Rose made her debut on the catwalk in his long-time friend's clothes.

Along with Stephanie Rose on the catwalk were Natt Weller, the son of Paul Weller, and Frank Lanpard's ex, Spanish model Elen Rivas.

Explaining how the fashion line came about, Richie Sambora said: "Jon and I had this idea for a song “White Trash Beautiful” and I was walking around the house one day and thought this song sounds like a clothing line.

"Nikki had an amazing line of clothes called Eccentric Symphony and I was a fan. I called her up and it all started from there."

Nikki Lund added: "I have always admired Richie’s unique personal style in music and fashion. He is a brilliant artist and trendsetter with over 30 years in the business. It is so inspiring working with him."

The range uses distressed leather to create edgy zip-decorated jackets, risque metallic capes, sexy dresses and evening gowns.

But the collection will not be in the shops until the autumn. You can, however, buy it online from July.

here aren't too many alpha-females out there and, though she might deny it, Tania Braukamper certainly exudes their qualities. A keen eye, a focused approach, and a wardrobe spanning three rooms have made her one of the savviest of dressers. But it's not all couture for Tania, earning her fashionista credentials she'll frequently be seen on the town in a one-off, vintage dress and a pair of Gucci heels. She says: Vintage will never go out of style
We say: Does that include vintage 80

skin on fingers

The wrinkles that occur in skin after prolonged exposure to water are sometimes referred to as pruney fingers or water aging. This is a temporary skin condition where the skin on the palms of the hand or feet becomes wrinkly.

In recent past the common explanation was based on water absorption in the keratin-laden epithelial skin when immersed in water,[8] causing the skin to expand and resulting in a larger surface area, forcing it to wrinkle. Usually the tips of the fingers and toes are the first to wrinkle because of a thicker layer of keratin and an absence of hairs which secrete the protective oil called sebum.

In 1935, Lewis and Pickering already found that the skin in the median nerve distribution failed to wrinkle in patients with median nerve palsy. This suggested a mechanism other than simple water absorption. Recent research shows that wrinkling is related to vasoconstriction.[9][10] Water probably initiates the wrinkling process by altering epidermal electrolyte homeostasis as it diffuses into the porous skin of the hands and soles via their many sweat ducts. Altered epidermal electrolyte homeostasis would lead to a change in membrane stability of the surrounding dense network of nerve fibers and trigger increased vasomotor firing with subsequent vasoconstriction. Vasoconstriction, through loss of volume, leads to negative digit pulp pressure resulting in a downward pull on the overlying skin, which wrinkles as it is distorted.[11][jargon]

This insight resulted in bedside tests for nerve damage and vasoconstriction. Wrinkling is often scored with immersion of the hands for 30 minutes in water or EMLA cream with measurements steps of 5 minutes, and counting the number of visible wrinkles in time. Not all healthy persons have finger wrinkling after immersion, so it would be safe to say that sympathetic function is preserved if finger wrinkling after immersion in water is observed, but if the fingers emerge smooth it cannot be assumed that there is a lesion to the autonomic supply or to the peripheral nerves of the hand.

skin on fingers

Compulsive picking of the knuckles (via mouth) illustrating disfiguration of the distal and proximal joints of the middle and little fingers.

The inability to control the urge to pick is similar to trichotillomania.[2] Recent research suggests that, like trichotillomania, dermatillomania may be an impulse control disorder.

In some animal models, it has been shown that animals which excessively pull their hairs have more endorphin receptors in their brain than animals who do not. Endorphin receptors enable endorphins to have an effect on the brain. If this is true for humans, people who are particularly compulsive about their repetitive habits may have more endorphin receptors in their brain as well. This may explain why sufferers get more enjoyment out of picking their scabs than others.[citation needed]

Few mental health practitioners have studied the disease, as many of these cases go unreported, but some individuals have found relief through cognitive-behavioral therapy. Hypnosis, self-hypnosis and meditation have also been useful for some patients.[citation needed] They are also sometimes prescribed medications, such as those prescribed for obsessive compulsive disorder. For example, artificial fingernails (acrylic or gel) have been found to be useful to some in stopping the picking behavior.

Some causes of the onset of Chronic Skin Picking Disorder can be anxiety, stress, and it can even be a pacifier. For example, one may pick at their face while reading a book or watching television. There are several more treatment options for Dermatillomania. Rather than discussing the person’s problems, the therapist and the client take many steps to be rid of the habit. This method can be called ‘exposure therapy’. The therapist and the client can make a list of symptoms and situations in which the client starts picking at his/her skin. A task can then be assigned by the therapist that would put the client in an uncomfortable situation. In addition to this, there are many therapy and support groups available for adolescents and adults that have OCD.

shoes fashion

Shoes

There is something about a peep toe shoe that is irresistibly vampy and sophisticated. The open-toe shoe has enjoyed a strong revival over the past few years, and fashion forecasts for 2008 indicate that the trend is expected to keep up its momentum over the next few seasons. This year, women can look forward to wearing the peep toe in retro-inspired looks as well as styles that have never been seen before.

Classic Peep Toe Style

Ultra-high heeled peep toe shoes, open-toe wedges, and stacked-heel peep toe mules are all reminiscent of 1950s pin-up girl fashions. This season, designers are throwing patent leather, suede, straps, chunky heels, metallic finishes and platforms into the mix to update the classic style.

Peep Toe Ankle Boots and Shoe/Booties

From onscreen in Sex and the City to stomping down runways and city streets, ankle boots are a sizzling alternative to typical shoes and boots. Peep toe shoes/booties were high on Lucky magazine's list of the next big things for 2008 in their January 2008 issue. Lucky's editors credit the peep toe shoe/bootie fusion with adding an extra punch of sex appeal to the season's silhouettes thanks to toe-revealing construction, lacing, plush materials and high, high heels. The style also comes in zipped and button closures, as well as slip-in varieties, and looks fabulous with dresses, skirts, jeans and trousers.

Peep Toe Cover-Up

The unspoken law of open-toe shoes has been that you should never wear opaque (or otherwise obvious) stockings with peep toe shoes. Well, 2008 is putting a big red line through that rule.

"Tights and peep toes are the year's new It couple," declares the ShopBop website. Going totally against the grain, one of the biggest footwear fashion crazes is pairing opaque tights or textured stockings with open-toe shoes. That which was once a serious fashion faux pas is now all the rage!

n case you are not aware, the iPhone 4 will use a special sim card called the “micro sim” which is different to your standard sim card. It is much tinier in size and you will need it if you buy the new model of the iPhone. There is a lot of confusion whether Apple will be giving them out to customers who have reserved their sim-free version of the iPhone 4 at the store for the launch day (24th June 2010). Just to be on the safe side, existing o2 customers can now pick up a micro sim from any o2 store and swap their old standard sim card for it.

All you need to do is take a print-out of the confirmation e-mail from Apple showing that you have reserved the iPhone at the store and take it to your local o2 shop and ask for the micro sim. They will give you the micro sim pack and it should look like the one shown in the image below. Make sure it states “Pay Monthly and Business” on the front as well as “Your new micro sim”.

Selfridges’s brilliant Nike Stadium for the World Cup

The Nike Stadium at Selfridges

I heard so much about the so-called Nike Stadium at Selfridges last month and was eager to see what it was all about. What a brilliant idea. With so many games there must be a lot of men who don’t want to miss some (perhaps even all) the world cup matches and I can just picture a lot of wives and girlfriends pushing to get them out of the home. With so many pubs and outdoor venues out there showing games, Selfridges have come up with their own solution if you want to go shopping without risking missing a match – the “Nike Stadium”.

Beautifully constructed, with 65 screens in total including the giant HD screen and brilliant surround sound, it is the perfect place to watch live games and highlights along with other football fans. Soak in the world cup atmosphere. Also included is a games room and a locker room. I have seen some games there already. It’s well worth checking out. Perfect if you are a male or female and would like to combine football with shopping.

See the video I made of the place, below:

Jake Garn is a photographer hobbyist with an insatiable need to create for as long as he can remember, whether it was drawing, building a fort, or even writing an unfinished novel. It was in the mid-nineties during a simple Introduction to Photography course that the seed for photographing was planted and Jake started his love affair with it! Since then he has produced some really beautiful photos as we will show here.

"Specializing in whimsical fashion. I love color, I love crazy, I love beauty, I love a dash of humor in my images and I love my wife, dog and cat… not necessarily in that order.” Jake Garn

I bumped into his work when I was doing my regular research for our Daily Inspiration post. I really liked the impression his images left on me: simplicity and beauty. I liked the photos and the way that they are composed without over productions, it gives us the sensation that the models are natural, maybe photoshop retouched but not "made on it". Here is a selection of Jake's fashion photos and portraits for you to admire. I hope you like them.

Known for her swish designs, designer Anamika Khanna showcased her summer line at WIFW on the first day. The brand itself explains explains the story and raise the expectation for a beautiful trendy collection. Carrying forward her intrinsic sensibility of design, she created a set with hanging unlit bulbs in a series, also the heavy chain accessories used as neck pieces was something distinct but nothing bizarre. There were dresses, jackets, long jackets, kaftans and a lot more using various techniques such as cut and mesh work, however the showstopper garment was the same that we witnessed at Couture Week'08, also one of the pieces was a replica of the costume she carried at the IIFA awards 2009.

This was followed by Ashish N Soni. The audience witnessed a come back of little back dress in variations. We could see a little influence of the latest Manish Arora collection with 'circular contours' used as motifs in Ashish's collection. The geeky goggles were witnessed at Nari's show at LFW'AW 09, however, the nerdy look, messy hair and casual attitude of models on the runway gave a different essence to the show. The front row was full of serious buyers including Alka Nishar from AZA, Neha Hirani from Kimaya and a host of international buyers from Japan and France. Sunil Sethi, designers, Narendra Kumar and Nachiket Barve were also spotted there. All in all, a decent show! The Reviews:Alka Nishar (AZA):Anamika was very good as usual, her jackets and dresses were beautiful, and it's good to see some serious fashion happening here. Ashish's collection was reminiscent of little black dresses, actually, dresses are a big trend these days! Nachiket Barve (designer): I think more than one show, it's the atmosphere that I am quite impressed with, I find more seriousness here. Known for is grandeur, ace designer Tarun Tahiliani unveiled his glamorous SS'10 collection at WIFW on 24th of Oct. Not only the sets but the collection was also grand and luxurious. Sticking to his traditional style, the designer showcased his Indian collection comprising of sarees, lehengas dresses and a lot more. Apparently a few pieces amongst the entire assortment were recycled from his previous collections shown at Delhi Fashion Week collection. However, his last sequence had a brand new essence comprising dresses, sarees, anarkalis and long dresses with variations. By the way, no rule book mentions that previous. The first glance of the set was actually a baharon phool barsao moment for the audiences! This hanging garden had a complete essence of floral world of fantasy with birds, peacocks and the waterfalls on the runway but lacked a little professional finish.

Apparently the ramp overshadowed the attire a little, however the name 'TT' is big enough to create a murmuring 'wow' sound echoing in the entire arena which was no surprise element at all. By and large it was a houseful show in comparison to the entire day and the arena overflowed with professionals, buyers, designers like Rohit Bal and people like Meher Rampal and so on. The Reviews: Lauwalah (Buyer from Kuwait):Tarun has become my favorite for last two seasons and the Indian touch in his designs just takes my heart away. The Indian essence has become global now and people actually look forward to that. Meher Rampal (ex model):Tarun stole away my hearts, as always!

Oh, say can you see - all the people wearing red, white and blue? Every 4th of July, Americans eagerly sport the colors of the flag to express their patriotism. But fashionistas also wonder if they can wear red, white and blue without looking like Uncle Sam, or a parade float. Fellow Americans, it is indeed possible, as these fashion school tips demonstrate. So this Independence Day, show your patriotism - and your fashion savvy - 'til the dawn's early night.

Try muted colors. According to fashion design experts, wearing more than one intense color at the same time creates a "loud" look that is unflattering. So go for muted versions of our patriotic colors. Instead of wearing bright red, try cranberry, burgundy, or even soft pink. And the more neutral hues of navy, indigo or heather blue look much better on most people than royal blue. That's why jeans work so well; the muted denim complements almost any color, bright or subdued.

Allow one color to dominate. When you wear equal amounts of red, white and blue, it tends to look costumey. So let one color dominate, and allow the other colors to play back-up. For example, a red sundress can carry the day, accented by blue sandals. Or wear a blue shirt, with just a hint of a red ringer tee underneath. You can even go monochromatic. Imagine how dramatic an all-white pantsuit would look in the sea of patriotic outfits.

Let freedom bling. Go patriotic with your jewelry. And we don't mean a flag pin, either. A strand of white pearls looks stunning against anything red. And turquoise blue bracelets add just the punch you need with a white blouse or slacks. After all, your red, white and blue elements don't have to be articles of clothing.

Mix red, white and blue with other colors. In fashion design, it's all about balance, so introduce some neutrals into the mix for a more pleasing color palette. Even the brightest red or blue blazer looks fashionable when paired with a charcoal grey skirt or slacks. Oddly enough, by adding additional colors to the mix, the patriotic colors can stand out even more.

Play with patterns. Red, white and blue look particularly stylish, and less like a flag, when they're incorporated into prints like florals or plaids. Besides, these cheery prints are so essential to any summer wardrobe. Stay away from stars or stripes, however, or you'll look like you're about to do a tap number in the town square.

With these fashion tips, you'll be sure to create fireworks at your 4th of July gathering.

1. Get an Early Start
Make a habit of washing your face a few hours before bed. If you wait until you're tired, you're more likely to blow it off -- allowing "toxins and dirt to stay on there all night," says dermatologist Laurie Polis of N.Y.C. Another consequence? You miss the best time to treat your skin. "At night there's more blood flow to the skin's surface, and there's nothing else on your face to interfere with absorption," Polis says.

Try: Neutrogena Deep Clean Relaxing nightly cleanser, $7; at drugstores.

2. Sleep on Your Back
Note to Audrey Hepburn fans: Lying on your stomach is bad for "beauty sleep." The average head weighs 7 to 8 pounds -- a lot of pressure to be putting on your face every night. In fact, many dermatologists say they can tell what side of the face people sleep on by the number of wrinkles there.

3. Get a Lift
Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows, or put the headrest area of your bed on 2- to 4-inch pieces of wood. Gravity helps lymph and blood flow so fluid won't accumulate, Polis says.

4. Save Money, Not Wrinkles

At night you don't need to worry about eye treatments smearing your makeup, so slather on the richest formula you can. Polis swears by Aquaphor: "It conditions lashes and hydrates the delicate eye skin really well."

Try: Aquaphor Healing ointment, $9; drugstore.com.

5. Sneak a Glow
Mix a drop of self-tanner into your night cream or use a cream that contains a bit of tan-producing DHA.

Try: Clarins Radiance-Plus self-tanning cream, $52; clarinsusa.com.

6. Avoid Carb Face
To wake with defined cheekbones, eat a high-protein, low-sugar dinner (try salmon and asparagus, a natural diuretic). Skip the rice, pasta and potatoes. "When our diet's high in glycemic carbohydrates, our features take on a soft, doughy appearance," says Connecticut dermatologist Nicholas Perricone.

7. Wrap It Up
To minimize A.M. frizz, sleep on a satin pillowcase or put your hair in a silk scarf. "Those fabrics are much softer than cotton, so there's less friction," says Harry Josh, a John Frieda stylist.

8. Find Your Inner Ballerina
Pile hair into a twist on the top of your head (use a scrunchie to avoid crimping). "In the morning you'll have major volume and beautiful waves," Josh says.

9. Turn on the Hair Conditioning
Sleep with a moisturizing treatment in damp hair overnight. We like Philip B. Katira Hair Masque, but any rich conditioner will do. Rinse in the morning.

Try: Philip B. Katira Hair Masque, $40; philipb.com.

10. Pop a Rooster Pill
Trust us, we were skeptical. But after swallowing two Wake Up on Time pills at 11 P.M., we found it much easier to get out of bed seven hours later. Created by a sleep-deprived single mother, the pills contain an energizing blend of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamins B6 and B12 and guarana-seed extract. It's formulated with a coating that releases ingredients into your bloodstream toward the end of your last sleep cycle, so you wake up feeling clear-headed, not fuzzy.

First Look: Material Girl by Madonna for Macy's
Three sketches from Madonna's Material Girl clothing line which will hit store shelves and Macys.com in August.

In case hadn't heard, Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes have teamed up to design a junior's clothing line predictably called Material Girl to be sold exclusively at Macy's. Today we've got our first look at three sketches from the fall 2010 collection, which will make its debut August 3, 2010. The collection, which includes minidresses, accessories, jeans and jackets, will retail at an affordable $12 to $40 pricerange. Keep an eye out for a macys.com/materialgirl website, Material Girl Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as an advertising campaign to launch on Tuesday June 29th.

I'm all for mother-daughter bonding but I can't say I'm the least bit interested in shopping this collection. I want to remember Madonna as a groundbreaking musician and artist, not a celebrity clothing line designer.

Are you excited to see more from Material Girl?

Shoes in Bright Colors

You'll be seeing a lot of purple pumps, pink platforms and melon Mary Janes -- in fact, every color of the rainbowis well represented in this spring’s selection of footwear. But there is a special emphasis on hot and citrus colors like oranges, limes, yellows and pinks. This is great news for those of us who die a little bit inside every time the fashion powers-that-be decide that beige is the new black.

Print Shoes

From floral patterns to retro graphic prints,
prints are experiencing a bit of a comeback
this season, and there are enough out there
that I'm calling it a mini-trend.I love print
shoes because they're such an easy way to
inject a bit of personality into an otherwise
basic outfit -- and they're great for pulling
together multiple colors. The key to pulling
them off is in keeping the rest of your outfit
relatively simple.

Color Block Shoes
Another huge trend for Spring 2008 is Color Block shoes (or shoes with "color blocking") -- which is basically a 50 cent term for shoes that combine big, bold areas of
contrasting colors. It's a great look, and one I'm really fond of.
And it works so well with mod styles, bright colors and shiny
finishes, it's the perfect time for its comeback. Patent Leather
Shoes Happily, we're not done with patent leather yet, especially
since I can't wait to see all of this season's bright colors coated
with shiny varnish. All I can say to my fellow patent lovers is to
enjoy these glistening gems while you can, because as hard as it
is to believe, shiny shoes aren't always so popular.

Metallic Shoes
Metallic shoes are in again. Not that they were ever really "out"
exactly. It's just a matter of which department you'll find them in.
When they're really "in" you'll find metallic flats, casuals, boots,
even metallic sneakers. When metallics aren't quite as hot, you'll
find them mostly in the evening shoe department.Well, this spring,
you can have just about any kind of shoe you desire with a metallic
finish. Especially if you desire it in gold, and especially, especially if
you desire it in silver. Shimmer on.

Shoes with Cut-Out Uppers
Holy Shoes, shoes with holes in them are hot! Laser cut, punched,
mesh and perforated uppers can be found on everything from
sporty shoes to pretty pumps, and with designs ranging from
dainty floral patterns to designs that look nearly industrial. While
this trend isn't quite as omnipresent as some of the others on the
list, it is one of the more innovative -- and some of my favorite
styles thus far this season, have fallen into this category.

Sling-Back Shoes
Sling-back shoes are among my favorite styles, so I'm happy
to report that they'll be hitting the streets and our feet with a
vengeance this spring. One of the reasons I like sling-backs so
much is because I find them less-confining than regular pumps.
And while back straps are usually found on shoes with higher
heels, this season, they can even be found on flats and lower
heeled styles.

Platform Shoes
While we may not be quite as platform-crazed as we were last
Spring and Summer, make no mistake, platform shoes are still
a popular choice for Spring 2008. But if you want to stay on the
cutting-edge of this wave, try looking for styles that pair one of
this season's other hot trends, like bright colors or cut-out uppers,
with their thick soles.
